CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

Our 17th Annual Fall Conference on Issues in Women's Health is designed to provide obstetricians and gynecologists, family physicians, internists, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and all other healthcare professionals with the most current clinical information in women's health. The primary goal of this conference is to enhance the knowledge and competence of attendees.

Conference topics have been selected based on extensive target audience needs assessment data including clinical expert input, current practice guidelines, past conference participant requests and our on-line needs assessment survey of health care providers in women's health.

An outstanding, multidisciplinary faculty has been assembled for this conference. Faculty members were selected based on their individual area of expertise, their willingness to address issues of current concern, and their accessibility to interact with participants.

This exciting conference will provide you with an opportunity to share current ideas with colleagues from across the country. Three morning sessions and an afternoon of Small Group Breakout sessions leave ample time for relaxing, enjoying family and friends, and exploring the fabulous Atlantis Resort.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this conference, you should be able to:

Identify current guidelines for breast cancer screening & discuss treatment options for cancer during pregnancy;

Discuss the influence of hormone therapy on malignancies;

Cite current guidelines for Pap smear & HPV testing;

Explain strategies for recognition & treatment of depression throughout a woman's life cycle;

Better diagnose & manage common endocrine disorders such as thyroid problems & osteoporosis, & describe management of diabetes in and out of pregnancy;

Discuss hypertensive crises during pregnancy; identify & manage heart disease in pregnancy, and recognize current referral guidelines.

Cite treatment options for uterine fibroids;

Enhance your knowledge for gentle GYN care of the young female patient;

Discuss the guidelines for exercising during pregnancy.

ACCREDITATION

This educational activity was planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME and ANCC Essentials and Standards relating to continuing medical and nursing education.

Symposia Medicus is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Symposia Medicus is accredited as a provider of continuing education for nurses by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT

Physicians
Symposia Medicus designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Application has been made with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for cognates, Formal Learning.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

Nurse Midwives/ Physician Assistants
The American College of Nurse Midwives and the American Academy of Physician Assistants accept Category 1 CME approval from organizations accredited by the ACCME.

Nurse Practitioners/Nurses
The ANCC contact hours awarded for the completion of this educational activity is 18.

Provider is also approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP2335, for 21.6 contact hours.

Pharmacology Credit for Prescriptive Authority
A maximum of 4 hours in pharmacology credit for prescriptive authority may be earned by attending this educational conference. Sessions awarding pharmacology credit for prescriptive authority are denoted with an Rx in the schedule.

Participants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Certificates of completion/ credit will be given to participants on-site at the conclusion of the conference.

SMALL GROUP BREAKOUTS

Small group breakouts will be held Friday afternoon. These breakout sessions are organized to provide an opportunity for greater participant/faculty interaction and to discuss subjects relating to your particular areas of interest. You are encouraged to bring cases or issues you are confronting in your clinical practice to discuss during these breakouts.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Each registrant will receive an extensive conference syllabus containing pertinent information on each topic presented in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of printing on paper, the syllabus is now available on CD. Extra copies of the syllabus, whether on paper or CD, are available for purchase by writing, with $45 payment to: Symposia Medicus, 399 Taylor Blvd., Suite 201, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 (please request syllabus #1123 and indicate type of media preferred).

If you request your syllabus on CD and plan to bring your laptop to the conference, please be aware there are NO electrical outlets at the conference tables. Make sure your laptop is fully charged.

GROUP TOURS

Tours are planned for participants and their guests throughout the conference breaks. Additional information on our conference hotel, location, and group tours will be sent.
